Playboy ‘Women of Enron’ Issue Due Out July 1
HOUSTON (Reuters) - As far as dates on Enron Corp.’s corporate calendar go, here is one that might grab more interest than its next
bankruptcy court appearance.
Playboy magazine said on Wednesday its nude photo spread showcasing the “Women of Enron” will hit newsstands on July 1, in its
August issue.
Playboy, the flagship publication of Playboy Enterprises Inc., announced a search for Enron models in late March. A week later,
Playgirl magazine said it was offering equal time to the “Men of Enron” in an issue tentatively set for late summer
Both magazines, which are not related, say they have had strong response to their call for nude and semi-nude models from the ranks of
the energy trader, which filed the largest-ever U.S. bankruptcy on Dec. 2.
Playboy spokeswoman Elizabeth Norris said the layout will feature former Enron employees from all over, not just from the company’s
Houston headquarters.
“We got more than 100, then we narrowed it to 50 that we interviewed and then we photographed 10,” Norris said.
Playgirl spokeswoman Anna Briggs said the magazine, which is published by privately held Blue Horizons Media, was still sorting
through its responses.
“We’re getting a lot of photos and phone calls from the guys at Enron, probably enough to do a whole issue on and they keep coming
in,” she said.
No date is set for the issue yet.
As for how much the models were paid, Norris declined to say. But she did concede that a few models confirmed the reputation of Enron
employees as deal-driven and fearsome negotiators.
“Some of them were, yes,” Norris said.
Norris would not identify the models and said she did not know what jobs they had or have at Enron. Some very high-ranking employees
tried out, she said.
All of the photo shoots wrapped up last week, and Playboy photographers were in Houston for a number of them, she said.
No pictures were taken in front of Enron’s downtown Houston headquarters or its now-famous chrome signs, shaped like a tilted letter “E”
with red, green and blue, she said.
“You can’t shoot nude photos in broad daylight,” Norris said.
