WILL WORK TO DEFEAT CAPITALISM
A performance on Wall Street by Andy Cox On Monday, August 19, 2002 at noon Unemployed artist Andy Cox will be creating dialog about the shortfalls of the capitalist system with a performance on Wall Street including outside the New York Stock Exchange. He will be the businessman wearing a cardboard sign proclaiming: “WILL WORK
TO DEFEAT CAPITALISM” and handing out resumes and business cards.Last month Mr. Cox conducted a similar performance in the financial district of London (see http://www.TWCDC.com/will_work for photographs).
As stated in the Career Objective section of Mr. Cox’s resume:
“Capitalism is proving incapable of providing a stable, peaceful world where everyone has an equal say and equal shares. Rampant capitalism is destroying the environment and creating an ever growing gap between rich and poor. I am searching for a position where I can use and develop my media manipulation, project management, and engineering skills in the creative defeat of capitalism.”
(full resume available at http://www.TWCDC.com/will_work)
Globalization signifies the global spread of a corrupt capitalism as embodied by massive corporate entities such as Enron with its phony book-keeping and Citibank with its funding of destructive environmental projects (see http://www.ran.org). Capitalism is a vehicle for concentrating wealth and power in the hands of the few.
With capitalism having infiltrated all walks of life, WILL WORK TO DEFEAT CAPITALISM also points to the virtual impossibility of making a decent living outside of the ideology of greed; but there is always hope, even on Wall Street. Mr. Cox is a long-standing critic of the capitalism system and founder of the artists collective Together We Can Defeat Capitalism. TWCDC undertakes stunning and controversial projects in public space.
Information on past projects is available at http://www.TWCDC.com.
