Boing Boing: Salon on LA proto-beat author John Fante

Saturday, March 11th, 2006

One of my favorite authors in my younger years was John Fante:

Boing Boing: Salon on LA proto-beat author John Fante:

Salon on LA proto-beat author John Fante
Allen Barra wrote a great piece about one of my favorite authors, John Fante. A movie based on his novel, Ask the Dust, opens today in theaters.
Fante — the name rhymes with Dante, which must have afforded no end of amusement to someone whose best-known character constantly proclaimed a desire to be ‘the world’s greatest writer’ — is one of the true bad boys of 20th centu”

Nasdaq six years ago and punkdreams

Friday, March 10th, 2006

On this day six years ago the technology heavy NASDAQ Composite index peaked at 5048.62 (intra-day peak 5132.52), more than double its value just a year before. I had just started at my new dotcom job. 10 months later I decided never to leave journalism again. And now it’s time for Web 2.0 – or is it dotcom 2.0? I do get confused some times… Maybe is it time to pick up on the 80’s and my failed career as a punk musician? I still have my guitar, any one out there who wants to be in a band and change their life?

If you want to go down memory lane: Wikipedia on dotcom or Investopedia, the biggest market crashes in history. And something about the band (in Danish) Boghandle. Argh, this website does contain some disinformation. The band was formed in 1985 - not at the end of the 80’s. And the first album did not lead to a support gig for the Pixies. We played with the Pixies in Copenhagen a year before the debut on vinyl. June 1989. In fact my last concert with the band. But the fuzz pedal on the cover of the second album (produced by Jack Endino) was mine. And I still have it!

Podcast: Russ Meyer interview

Thursday, March 9th, 2006

From the Mondofunza archives I bring you this vintage interview with the late moviedirector Russ Meyer. Famous for his movies with bigbreasted women. I think I made this interview in 1996, though I’m not quite sure about the year. But it doesn’t really matter, because Russ Meyer is in great shape in spite of his age. Listen and enjoy – and oh yes, this podcast does contain dirty words and obscene talking, sorry about that.

Digitalsyndikatet

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

Friday, March 3rd, 2006

Nyhedsbrevet Dansk Presse nr. 09-2006 skriver:

Podcast: monochrom – children of postmodernism

Thursday, March 2nd, 2006

Interview with Johannes Grenzfurthner from the Austrian artgroup monochrom.
The monochrom group are the funniest artists I have met for a long time.

In their own words monochrom is an art-technology-philosophy group of basket weaving enthusiasts and theory do-it-yourselfers having its seat in Vienna and Zeta Draconis. monochrom is the super-affirmation of the globalization trap. Monochrom has existed in this (and almost every other) form since 1993.

The music in the podcast is Let’s network it out: Official theme song of the Austrian contribution to the Biennial Sao Paulo 2002. By monochrom and Georg Paul Thomann. You can find more information about G. P. Thomann and the song on monochrom’s Thomann site.

Please download the mp3, 13,9 mb, duration 20:37. Johannes and I would like to make our excuses to English native speakers. This is not pretty - ABER ES IST GREAT FUN :-)
